Lu's works are concept-driven interdisciplinary installations. Working across different mediums and materials allows Lu to construct various visual signifiers with multiple layers of information.
Lu often employs recognizable visual components such as food, domestic objects, and text to create references that evoke a sense of familiarity. These elements are then altered, edited, covered, and multiplied to become more symbolic, abstract, and occasionally performative. Lu enjoys proposing questions within the work, resisting the urge to provide definitive answers.

Soft Composition: This course invites students into the sewing circle in service of solving compositional problems with the language of quilting, drawing, and collaging. This course is a multi-level studio course requiring no previous experience of working with textile. Students will learn traditional and nontraditional sewing and collaging techniques to produce soft objects. Demonstrations include mapping 2D and 3D images, piecing, applique, and additive image making. Students projects will explore the alternative and whimsical sensibilities in soft sculpture and material.
It All Starts From A Zine: The project invites students to learn the history of zines, how to make one, and how to add content using various mediums and materials. Students will spend some time discussing and choosing a topic for their zine. Some example prompt questions could include: What do you enjoy? What do you worry about? If your zine were to be found by someone in the future, what would you want them to know about the world we live in? After finishing their zine, students will present and discuss their work with the class. We will make copies of the zines and have a zine collection.
Jewlery Making Class: The workshop invites students to create a personalized jewelry piece to their accessories. During class, students will learn the basic knowledge of the jewelry making process, color theory, and different types of clasps and findings. Students will have hands-on experience in creating an one-of-a-kind piece that is unique and exclusive to themselves.
Big Damn Print: In this workshop, students will learn the art of block printing on textiles. We will look at the history of block printing on fabric, specifically focusing on how different social and political movements have used block print as a way of building community and creating information. Then students will learn the basic techniques and tools of block printing, and we will get right into carving and printing. In addition to printing on their own piece of fabric, we will also print multiple block on large sheets of fabric for students to take home as table cloth, rug, throw blanket, etc.
